Adhesives and LOCTITE® Adhesive Products

Modern adhesives are decisive in the durability and maintenance of machines for different industrial applications. They help to optimise workflows and to seal and glue rubber, metals, plastics and other materials in a reliable way.
Adhesives are being increasingly used in industrial manufacturing. There are good reasons for this! Thanks to constant development, new and better products are always coming onto the market which allow for high-strength bonds between the most varied of materials. This means that adhesive technology is constantly being used for new fields of application.

Sealants - Fluid Sealants

Sealants are plastic or elastic compounds based on specific polymers. They are used to seal joints, seams, surfaces and punctures. Sealants do this by providing a "bridge" between the surface of workpieces of the same or different materials. The functionality is significantly influenced by the following factors:

  • adhesion of the sealant to the workpiece and
  • cohesion within the sealant


Lubricants are versatile and can be used individually or in a combination according to the application they are used for. Alongside the primary requirement of a lubricant - maximum transmission of power with minimum friction and minimum wear - it must often also possess diverse secondary characteristics such as being waterproof, resistant to chemicals, compatible with plastics or anti-corrosive. In combination with regular maintenance, the right lubrication is very important for the durability of machines and machine components. Lubricants increase the efficiency and durability of machines in that they prevent friction and corrosion and thereby also prevent premature wear. They ensure good heat dissipation, dampen vibrations and prevent fluids and solids from entering sealed areas and thereby reduce repair and maintenance costs.

Surface and Corrosive Protection

Passive corrosive protection is a significant addition to the corrosive protection already provided by the structure of components and machines. Alongside chemical treatment of the surface, e.g. by brown-finishing or chromating, anti-corrosive paints/coatings are a very effective way of preventing damage.
Anti-corrosive and surface protection products are designed for the treatment of metallic surfaces in order to prevent corrosion in the long run. Furthermore, these products can be use to clean and loosen parts which have seized-up. Rust can be transformed into a stable base, meaning the metallic surface can then be painted over.

Cleaning Agents

For optimal results, it is necessary to clean workpieces and tools thoroughly. Most workpieces which have been through the manufacturing process are covered with lubrication oils, anti-corrosive oils, grease, dust, abrasive material, paint etc. These impurities must be removed before the workpieces can be processed, e.g. before varnishing or application of adhesives. Specific, extremely stubborn impurities require the use of additional solvents or reducers in order to increase the effectiveness of cleaning. As well as having good solvent characteristics, solvents must also be kind to the skin.
